Starting Trauma/PTSD therapy

Need more help deciding?

Post-traumatic stress disorder, or “PTSD,” is an illness that can happen after individuals see or experience a trauma. Equally important, trauma is defined as a prevailing incident that involves solemn death or injury, or the chance of solemn death or injury. Certainly, trauma can include medical events, such as a heart attack, surgery, or treatment in a hospital’s intensive care unit (“ICU”) or it can include traumatic events that one witnessed or experienced in one’s lifetime. Unfortunately, PTSD can cause anxiety, depression, nightmares, distressing memories and other symptoms.

Not everybody who experiences or survives through a trauma will get PTSD. In general, clinicians do not know why some people get PTSD while other individuals do not.

PTSD can happen at any age and Thriveworks PTSD Counseling Woodstock can help you with your PTSD today.

What Are the Signs and Symptoms of PTSD?

The symptoms of PTSD include:

  • Having intense feelings, such as worry, anger, or fear. Also, individuals may startle or frighten effortlessly. Correspondingly, many individuals have trouble sleeping.
  • Feeling “numb” and evading from various places or people. Uniquely, individuals with PTSD try avoiding people and places that remind them of the trauma and they try to minimize even thinking about it. Individuals with PTSD may not like activities they used to enjoy or feel connected to the world around them.
  • Recreating the trauma through thoughts and feelings – This is where individuals can have upsetting memories, nightmares, or even flashbacks. Flashbacks are when people “see” or feel the trauma over and over again.

These symptoms can begin immediately after the trauma and if they last longer than 3 days, then they might be symptoms of an interrelated condition called acute stress disorder (ASD). If they last longer than a month, they could be symptoms of PTSD.

Sometimes symptoms of PTSD may start several years later. The symptoms of PTSD repeatedly affect a person’s daily life, job, and relationships. Symptoms of PTSD may come and go. They might return when individuals are under stress or hear or see something that reminds them of the trauma. If you are experiencing any of the aforementioned symptoms of PTSD, don’t take it lightly and call Thriveworks PTSD Counseling of Woodstock. By all means, we can help you take back your life!

How Can PTSD Be Treated?

Different types of therapists can do CBT, including psychologists, licensed professional counselors, and social workers. Having him as an unbiased, professional ear to listen to my situations has proven to be invaluable. So, many people in my life have tried to convince me to act in their interest and not my own.

I could not be happier with my psychiatric nurse she’s very thorough, responsible, and caring individual. I appreciate that if I fail to reach out to her on the minute, she takes the time to reach out to me to get our meeting started, and is very attentive to any notice that I give her And I appreciate her recommendations
