Starting Divorce counseling

What is divorce counseling?

Thriveworks divorce counseling in Waltham, MA can help couples understand if they want to divorce or help them move forward post-divorce. Either way, it helps them navigate conflicts and/or tough conversations that pertain to their relationship and individual selves.

How does divorce counseling work?

Divorce counseling at Thriveworks is tailored to each couple and the individuals that make up that couple. It works by offering…

  • Tools to work through conflicts and better manage negative feelings
  • Guidance in making the right decision if you’re still in the process of considering divorce
  • Help with different stages of the divorce and separation process
  • A better understanding of what went wrong in the relationship
  • A third-party perspective that ensures both parties are heard

Is divorce counseling conducted in person or online?

Divorce counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does divorce counseling last?

The amount of divorce counseling sessions will vary from one person to the next, depending on their specific needs. However, it typically lasts for several weeks or months.

Need more help deciding?

Jane deemed her relationship picture-perfect. She couldn’t ask for a more loving, compassionate, or compatible partner. These—and all of Jack’s other redeeming qualities—made Jane excited to get married and more than confident about their future together. And for the first few years, she proved herself right: they fit into the cookie cutter of a perfect couple. Their relationship was full of love, intimacy, and fun; void of apathy, distance, and discord.

But eventually, this pattern changed. The love, intimacy, and fun became scarce, as apathy, distance, and discord crept in. There wasn’t a clear cause for this shift… but the subsequent effects were crystal. Jane and Jack were no longer happy together. In fact, they spent less and less time at home as they sought more and more time apart. Jane put in longer hours at work and was excited about a possible promotion. Jack was exploring a newfound love for rock-climbing and hoping to follow it all the way to Germany someday. They both found fulfillment in other areas of life… and the farther away they got from each other, the more fulfilled they felt. Still, they were afraid of separating—even though they’d already done so both mentally and emotionally.

“Divorce is a fire exit. When a house is burning, it doesn’t matter who set the fire. If there is no fire exit, everyone in the house will be burned.” –Mehmet Murat Ildan

Divorce counseling can help you safely exit your marriage. If you and your partner have grown apart (like Jane and Jack), and you are navigating a divorce, consider working with a divorce counselor or psychologist at Thriveworks Waltham. Our providers have a specific skillset, of which enables them to help you through this trying time. They can help you work through your divorce together or independently, depending on what you want and need. And they are eager to get started.

Can I Benefit from Divorce Counseling?

Even those who are happy about the separation can benefit from divorce counseling. As splitting from the individual you vowed to spend the rest of your life with can take a significant toll on your heart, mind, and body. Fortunately, a divorce counselor is an expert when it comes to healing from this kind of loss. They’ll help you work through the following, which can result from divorce:

  • Anxious thoughts
  • Feelings of depression
  • Significant weight loss or gain
  • Social withdrawal
  • General hopelessness

These harmful consequences of divorce are what make divorce counseling so important. They stress the importance of working with a mental health professional who can assist you through this often painful process and guide you toward living a happy and healthy—as well as successful—life again.

Meet With a Divorce Counselor at Thriveworks Waltham

Perhaps you get that the divorce is for the better; maybe you’re even happy to separate legally; or maybe you’re having a tougher time than you thought you would. In any which case, a divorce counselor can provide the assistance and support that will prove important to your life moving forward. Depending on your needs, a counselor can help the two of you navigate the divorce process or help you with your individual counseling goals:

  • Joint counseling: A divorce counselor can help you and your partner work through the fine details of your divorce, like finances and/or living arrangements. They’ll do their best to make sure the divorce goes as smoothly as possible and can function as a mediator as needed.
  • Individual counseling: A divorce counselor can help you work through your individual challenges regarding your divorce. They can help you confront any stifled emotions, work through this pain, and find the right path for moving forward with your life.

For the past year my mental, emotional and physical health has been restored. By God's providence, I connected with a psychiatric nurse practitioner at your agency. She skillfully assessed my situation and quickly prescribed much needed medication. I was at an all time low. Because of her expertise, compassion, and support, my life was renewed. So incredibly grateful to have my life back again.

It was very difficult getting my account up. I believe that happens because when we initially signed up i made the account but it’s under my spouse insurance. After fixing the problem my not his account reflects our current therapy sessions. We get emails and text but when we sign into the thrivework accounts we can’t see the billing cycle to pay or see out upcoming session. Neither one of our accounts display update and current account information. And we have called a few times to get it right and it’s not working . My therapist and agency is splendid
