Starting Anger management therapy

Can you get a therapist for anger issues?

Yes, there are therapists who help with anger via Anger management therapy. It’s a therapeutic process that an individual goes through to manage their anger and identify its triggers. They’re given clear instructions on how to improve their angry behavior as well as a safe space for opening up about their emotions.

How does anger management therapy work?

Once an individual’s triggers are identified, anger management therapy focuses on helping the individual process and respond to these emotions in a more positive and productive manner. The anger management therapist will provide coping strategies and ultimately help their client take back control of their anger.

What are the 5 keys to controlling anger?

The five keys to mastering anger include identifying triggers, pausing before reacting, calmly expressing emotions, discovering constructive outlets for frustration, and seeking professional assistance if necessary. Acquiring these skills through Anger management therapy empowers individuals to effectively manage and navigate their anger.

What is the best therapy for anger management?

The best therapy for anger management often involves cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which helps individuals identify and change patterns of thinking and behavior related to anger.

Is anger management therapy conducted in person or online?

Anger management therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How many sessions do I need for anger management?

Often, Anger management therapy lasts between 4-6 weeks. However, it can last longer, dependent on the individual’s needs.

Need more help deciding?

Jackie is consumed by anger. She’s always shouting at other drivers on her short commute to work, getting into tiffs with her best friend during “fun” nights out, and even blowing up on her boyfriend just for leaving his dirty socks around. Both Jackie’s friend and boyfriend have talked to her about getting help for her angry inclinations—and just recently they threatened to cut her out of their lives if she doesn’t make a change. Jackie knows she needs to work on her anger. But she doesn’t even know where to start.

“Anger doesn’t solve anything. It builds nothing, but it can destroy everything.” –Lawrence Douglas Wilder

Can you relate to Jackie? Do you let your anger get the best of you? Are you ready to make a change, but you just don’t know where to start? Consider anger management counseling. The counselors at Thriveworks Counseling in Waltham, MA can help you take those first steps toward healing. They’ll design your anger management counseling around your specific needs and goals, and ultimately assist you in leading a healthier, more relaxed life.

Do I Have Anger Issues? What Are the Risks?

If you’re asking yourself whether you have anger issues, you can probably benefit from anger management counseling. This approach to therapy can help you better resolve conflicts with your significant other, improve your relationships with friends and coworkers, and even take control of your health again. That’s right, anger can have negative implications on your health—both physical and mental. Here are a few of those health risks:

  • Heightened blood pressure
  • Damage to the cardiovascular system
  • Rise in glucose levels
  • Increased risk for heart attack
  • Increased risk for stroke
  • Immune system can become suppressed
  • Aggravates emotional wellbeing

While anger is a natural reaction, it’s important we know how to control and express it properly. As you can see, when we fail to do so, we put our physical and emotional wellbeing at risk. Fortunately, those of us who need a little help doing so can work with an anger management counselor to make important strides in this mission.

How Does Anger Management Counseling Work?

Anger management counseling is specifically designed to help people better manage their anger. Part of this process is identifying triggers, of which cause the individual to become angry and act aggressively. Several common triggers include:

  • Discomfort
  • Traffic
  • Crowds
  • Busy places
  • Work frustrations
  • Loud people
  • Self-perceived failure

People with anger issues often lash out when they experience these triggers. They might yell at other people sitting in traffic, like Jackie. They might kick their desk when they don’t get a work memo done in time. They might even get physical with a loved one during an argument. As mentioned previously, reacting this way can have negative effects on one’s health and wellbeing—not to mention it can have profound effects on those around them as well.

For the past year my mental, emotional and physical health has been restored. By God's providence, I connected with a psychiatric nurse practitioner at your agency. She skillfully assessed my situation and quickly prescribed much needed medication. I was at an all time low. Because of her expertise, compassion, and support, my life was renewed. So incredibly grateful to have my life back again.

It was very difficult getting my account up. I believe that happens because when we initially signed up i made the account but it’s under my spouse insurance. After fixing the problem my not his account reflects our current therapy sessions. We get emails and text but when we sign into the thrivework accounts we can’t see the billing cycle to pay or see out upcoming session. Neither one of our accounts display update and current account information. And we have called a few times to get it right and it’s not working . My therapist and agency is splendid
