What is your go-to approach for cognitive behavioral therapy?

My preference is acceptance and commitment therapy, which is considered third-wave CBT. I prefer this approach because of the focus on the individual's values and language.

What tools do you teach in cognitive behavioral therapy?

I teach thought- and belief-challenging about oneself and others.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in cognitive behavioral therapy?

I know that a client is making meaningful progress when they inform me of the changes made, display decreased emotional reactivity to the themes surrounding what brought them into therapy, and have moved significantly closer to their intended goal.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement cognitive behavioral therapy?

Clients can practice learned strategies in addition to checking out suggested supplemental information in between sessions to supplement their time in therapy.

What should someone do to prepare for starting cognitive behavioral therapy?

One of the things I think would be helpful is for someone to know that it is okay for them to feel uncomfortable starting therapy.

I have bounced around between counselors and therapists for a few years now. I found Thriveworks and Doc Hill and I'm very happy with my new team. I finally feel comfortable speaking to someone again without fear or judgment. He understands and truly wants to help.
