Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a wonderful approach to counseling for many people. I find that clients benefit from improving accountability and taking control of their situation by using DBT skills.

What tools do you teach in dialectical behavior therapy?

DBT is a very helpful form of therapy for many people. I find that the skills of urge surfing and radical acceptance help move a person into a place of more control and confidence in dealing with things that are bothering them.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in dialectical behavior therapy?

A client will know they are making progress in DBT therapy when they are able to incorporate the learned skills into their daily life. Doing so reduces distress and helps improve accountability.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement dialectical behavior therapy?

I encourage people who are in DBT therapy to utilize safe and positive social support while in treatment. Accountability is a corner stone for this treatment approach so finding safe supportive individuals to help with personal accountability can be beneficial.

My overall experience has been as expected when dealing with behavior healthcare. There is no real care for the patient and their needs. I spent an hour on the phone with a call center rep from the billing department who said I had no insurance on file, then proceeded to transfer me to the correct department who said I did. I have been without medication that was prescribed on Monday. When I received a call back from the psychiatrist, it seemed that your company forgot to send it over. That is unacceptable behavior when it comes to dealing with any customer.

She was patient, understanding and overall a great help for me. She took the time to get to know me over the course of a few meetings and always allowed me to talk about whatever was on my mind without interruptions or judgement. I have spoken with a few other therapists in the past but they did not allow me to speak as freely as Jillian did. I would highly recommend her for the numerous reasons I stated above.
