What is your go-to approach for individual therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in individual therapy is using person-centered, mindfulness, strengths-based, and compassion-focused approaches. I place substantial significance on how an individual’s childhood, environment, relationships, and psychosocial characteristics contribute to their mental health.

What tools do you teach in individual therapy?

I utilize a holistic approach to collaborate with clients, while also highlighting the benefits that physical activity, nature, nutrition, sleep, and mindfulness have on our overall well-being. Some tools we can explore in individual therapy are:

  • Values: Review your values using a values list, explore which resonate, and discover how they are connected to your dreams and daily life.
  • Self-care, balancing daily rhythms and routine: Develop a grounding self-care practice that seamlessly embodies your values, daily life tasks, and future goals.
  • Mindfulness practice (emotion regulation tools): Become aware of the mind, body, emotions, and feelings connection through breath work, movement, and exploring coping tools.
  • Communication and connection (interpersonal effectiveness tools): These are tools for clearly expressing your needs, listening to others, and building connections with others. We can use templates, worksheets, and role-play.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy when they report less distress as they move toward their goals.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement individual therapy?

While in therapy, the client can practice and explore the tools they want to use outside therapy. Clients can supplement their time in individual therapy by practicing what we do together in sessions. This might include but is not limited to a sustainable self-care and mindfulness practice that includes breath work, movement, and routine. Clients may also begin to map their days and reflect on their values.

What should someone do to prepare for starting individual therapy?

For our first session, I hope the person feels authentically seen, heard, and understood as a whole person, so we collaborate on their treatment goals and have a clear path that guides our work together. Much of the clinical work is based on relationships. It’s okay to build this at your pace; let’s take this one step at a time and get to know each other. During our first meeting, I’d like to understand what brings you to meet with me. What would be helpful for you? What do you hope to get out of our meetings together? As we get to know each other, the answers to these questions may evolve — that’s okay, we’re in this together. If it's helpful, feel free to write some thoughts down and we can review and explore what's on your mind.

Starting Individual therapy

What is individual therapy?

Individual therapy, also known as individual-counseling, allows people to engage in private sessions with a skilled therapist, counselor, or psychologist. The core objective of individual therapy is to establish a secure and confidential setting where you can openly discuss whatever emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges you face. Through these one-on-one sessions, the client and therapist work together to delve into, comprehend, and ultimately find solutions for the issues at hand in their life.

How does individual therapy work?

Individual therapy unfolds in a structured process, commencing with an initial assessment in which the therapist gathers essential information about your history, concerns, and objectives. Together, you and your therapist collaboratively establish specific, attainable goals for your sessions, which can encompass symptom alleviation, personal development, or finding solutions to particular challenges.

Can individual therapy help me?

Yes, individual therapy, also known as individual-counseling, at Thriveworks can help you to improve your mental health and overall quality of life.

Is individual therapy conducted in person or online?

Individual therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does individual therapy last?

The duration of your individual therapy sessions will vary. The decision on the number and frequency of sessions is typically collaboratively determined by the client and therapist.

How much does individual therapy cost?

At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. For the past year my mental, emotional and physical health has been restored. By God's providence, I connected with a psychiatric nurse practitioner at your agency. She skillfully assessed my situation and quickly prescribed much needed medication. I was at an all time low. Because of her expertise, compassion, and support, my life was renewed. So incredibly grateful to have my life back again.

It was very difficult getting my account up. I believe that happens because when we initially signed up i made the account but it’s under my spouse insurance. After fixing the problem my not his account reflects our current therapy sessions. We get emails and text but when we sign into the thrivework accounts we can’t see the billing cycle to pay or see out upcoming session. Neither one of our accounts display update and current account information. And we have called a few times to get it right and it’s not working . My therapist and agency is splendid
