What is your go-to approach for individual therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in individual therapy is building a strong therapeutic rapport with my clients. I find the best benefit in building this connection and rapport with them is it allows my clients to feel safe and heard.

What tools do you teach in individual therapy?

I teach the following tools in individual therapy:

  • Relaxation tools: breathing exercises, practicing gratitude, positive self-talk.
  • Mindfulness tools: guided imagery, creating a safe space, body scanning, progressive muscle tension, and relaxation, leaves on a stream.
  • Challenging automatic negative thinking tools: utilizing a log to track negative thoughts/triggers.
  • Breathing exercises: diaphragmatic breathing, box breathing.
  • Learning and implementing coping skills: physical activity exploration/hobbies and interests, unhealthy vs. healthy coping skills.
  • Organizational tools.
  • Time management tools.
  • Self-confidence tools: self-esteem exercises, assertiveness skills.
  • Social skills: eye contact, healthy communication, and patterns of negative behaviors in communication.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy when they are able to better manage their symptoms independently, put in the work outside of their sessions to utilize skills, and have a higher quality of functioning.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement individual therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in individual therapy with self-care, getting some type of physical activity, practicing gratitude, and engaging in social and mental stimulation.

What should someone do to prepare for starting individual therapy?

To prepare for your first individual therapy session, you can reflect on whether you feel ready for the time and work necessary to invest in individual therapy requires, as well as being patient with yourself to build that professional rapport with your therapist, which will allow you to get to the vulnerability needed to heal.

Starting Individual therapy

What is individual therapy?

Individual therapy, also known as individual-counseling, allows people to engage in private sessions with a skilled therapist, counselor, or psychologist. The core objective of individual therapy is to establish a secure and confidential setting where you can openly discuss whatever emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges you face. Through these one-on-one sessions, the client and therapist work together to delve into, comprehend, and ultimately find solutions for the issues at hand in their life.

How does individual therapy work?

Individual therapy unfolds in a structured process, commencing with an initial assessment in which the therapist gathers essential information about your history, concerns, and objectives. Together, you and your therapist collaboratively establish specific, attainable goals for your sessions, which can encompass symptom alleviation, personal development, or finding solutions to particular challenges.

Can individual therapy help me?

Yes, individual therapy, also known as individual-counseling, at Thriveworks can help you to improve your mental health and overall quality of life.

Our Family Therapy sessions have been sent from heaven. Rosalie Cespedes brings professionalism, care, experience and love to our session. It is hard to find a person that all the family respects and appreciates her advice. My two daughters and wife truly appreciate her advice and the positive changes has made to our daily lives. We will definitely continue working with her long term and encourage any family or person going through personal challenges and need professional; honest advice to try working with her. Thank you for all you have done.

Talisha Harrison helped me by giving me the tools to help me navigate some difficult relationships. I also appreciate how kind, sensitive, and empathetic she was as I have been grieving a recent loss of a parent. I have also been recovering from a serious medical condition. Should I feel the need to seek counseling in the future, I would not hesitate to return to counseling with Talisha.

So far it's OK. I say ok because there is a big age difference between the therapist and myself. Maybe by 25yrs or so.

My therapist is Lesley Petersen and I have been a patient of hers for about four months now. She has been helping me through a stressful situation that I have been going through. I would recommend her because she is easy to talk to and non-judgmental.
