What is your go-to approach for individual therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in individual therapy is cognitive behavioral therapy. I find the best benefits in CBT because it helps to clarify the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions and is effective with 85% of our population. It also is an easily-manualized treatment which means the client can complete homework for the next session.

What tools do you teach in individual therapy?

I teach the following tools in individual therapy:

  • Mindfulness: Awareness of thoughts and feelings to be in the present moment
  • Relaxation techniques/breathing techniques: To provide a focus for mindfulness and emotional regulation
  • Self-compassion techniques: Being more gentle with oneself
  • Seeking safety: Modulized treatment for PTSD/addiction
  • Anger management: Emotional regulation
  • TF-CBT: Trauma treatment for children ages 3-18

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy when they ask to move to every 2 weeks or discontinue services at the completion of the treatment series.

I love my Dr Odu-Onikosi. But I have had several very bad experiences with the appt makers and supervisors over the appt making ( if there are any supervisors ....as no one has ever called me back ) The mis information they provide is gross and straight up not correct. You are probably losing patients over this as if I didn't like my Dr so much this second instance would have made me stop using Thrive for my needs all together.
