What is your go-to approach for dialectical behavior therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in dialectical behavior therapy is building motivation through a self-reward system. I also encourage distress tolerance skills, emotion regulation, and mindfulness. I find the best benefit in DBT and CBT because they teach clients to gain control of their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, since we cannot control others or situations.

What tools do you teach in dialectical behavior therapy?

I encourage the use of distress tolerance skills, emotion regulation, and mindfulness. I prefer DBT and CBT because they teach clients to gain control of their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in dialectical behavior therapy?

I know my client is making meaningful progress in DBT when the client is motivated and committed to personal growth. DBT is not a quick fix; it requires dedication, practice, and a willingness to learn and implement new skills. Clients ready to invest in their emotional well-being are more likely to experience significant positive changes, and when those positive changes are shown, I know there is progress. Positive changes include rating depression/anxiety on a lower scale of 0/10, changing their negative thoughts to be positive, showing the ability to use mindfulness, utilizing distress tolerance skills, and regulating emotions.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement dialectical behavior therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in DBT by researching DBT, learning how to utilize the tools, and monitoring their progress. They can also ask questions and come up with solutions with their therapist on how to better supplement DBT with their personal time.

What should someone do to prepare for starting dialectical behavior therapy?

To prepare for starting DBT, an individual can read and research DBT, the types of tools, and how to implement them in their lives, although the therapist can also prepare the client for this.

I love my Dr Odu-Onikosi. But I have had several very bad experiences with the appt makers and supervisors over the appt making ( if there are any supervisors ....as no one has ever called me back ) The mis information they provide is gross and straight up not correct. You are probably losing patients over this as if I didn't like my Dr so much this second instance would have made me stop using Thrive for my needs all together.
