What Is the Difference Between Therapy, Counseling, and Psychiatry?
Therapy, provided by our counselors and therapists, addresses emotional and behavioral challenges using therapeutic techniques for mental well-being. Counseling, offered by counselors or therapists, focuses on specific issues and life adjustments, while psychiatry, led by our psychiatric nurse practitioners, involves diagnosing and treating mental health conditions with medication.
What Are the Types of Therapists You Can See?
While availability may vary, at Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Cincinnati, we offer:
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs): Focused on relationship and family-related issues.
- Licensed Independent Social Workers (LISWs): Specialized in social work and counseling for individuals, families, and groups.
- Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCCs): Trained to offer counseling services for various emotional and mental health issues.
When you connect with a provider at Thriveworks, you’ll be sharing your experience with an industry-leading expert; someone with the experience and professional insight you need to move forward.

Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. Why Choose Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Cincinnati?
Aside from working with our experienced counselors, there are many other important reasons to choose Thriveworks in Cincinnati, such as:
- Extended hours: It can be difficult to make appointments during regular working hours, particularly if your own job is a traditional 9 to 5. Perhaps it’s tough to get off work, or maybe you simply want to keep your appointments private instead of explaining your need for personal time. That’s why we offer extended hours into the evenings and weekends, as well as virtual counseling sessions.
- Insurance: We accept most major insurance types and many of the smaller carriers. To get more information on exactly what benefits are available, contact us. We’ll be happy to help you navigate your insurance benefits. It’s likely you’ll be able to receive counseling for just a small co-pay.
- No waiting list: We don’t operate with a waiting list. It’s important to us that you get the help you need as quickly as possible. Being put on a waiting list not only delays your receipt of help, but also decreases the chances that you’ll ever actually get that help. For that reason, we can usually see new patients within the week. Once you contact us, help is immediately on the horizon.
Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Cincinnati partners with counselors, psychotherapists, and psychiatric providers who are some of the best in the field, and they’re here to help. If you’re suffering, if you’re not living your best life, whether you know why or not, give us a call and get on the road to a better you.
