What is your go-to approach for online therapy?

When doing online therapy, the best approach is to assure the same privacy and confidentiality as in-person therapy.

What tools do you teach in online therapy?

The type of tools taught in online therapy would depend on the situation that is brought to therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and other types of brief therapy are useful.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy?

I will know that a client is making meaningful progress when they can report a reduction in overwhelming emotions and when their ability to function increases.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement online therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in online therapy by using strategies that are discussed to help reduce symptoms and being prepared to discuss what is working at each session.

What should someone do to prepare for starting online therapy?

To prepare for the first online session, one can write down some of the difficult situations and what one hopes to improve with therapy.

Starting Online therapy

What is online therapy?

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.

What is the best option for online therapy?

There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.

Is online therapy just as effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.

How long does online therapy last?

Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.

How much does online therapy cost?

At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.

Online Counseling: What Is It? How Does It Work?

As we touched on above, online counseling is a convenient counseling service. It has many similarities with the traditional in-person therapy approach; however, instead of meeting your counselor face-to-face, you meet with them over a video conference.

Some of the options available in online therapy at Thriveworks include:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): CBT helps individuals identify and challenge negative thought patterns and develop coping strategies to manage symptoms of mental health conditions.
  • Mindfulness-based therapy: This approach incorporates mindfulness techniques to increase awareness of thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations, promoting relaxation and stress reduction.
  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT): ACT encourages individuals to accept their thoughts and feelings without judgment while committing to behavior change aligned with their values and goals.
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): DBT combines cognitive behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices to help individuals regulate emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and develop distress tolerance skills.
  • Interpersonal therapy (IPT): IPT focuses on improving communication and relationship skills to address interpersonal conflicts and socialisolation.
  • Psychoeducation: Online therapists provide information about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies to empower individuals to better understand and manage their symptoms.

Why Should I Try Online Therapy? 4 Online Counseling Perks

If you’re contemplating whether you want to go with in-person counseling or online counseling, consider the following 4 online counseling perks, which often lead people to choose the latter option:

  1. It’s oh-so convenient: With online counseling, you don’t have to leave home to attend yet another appointment. You can attend right from your bedroom, living room, kitchen, wherever you need or prefer. This also means that your counseling session will probably feel a little more comfortable than it would if you were at your counselor’s office!
  2. It’s tried and true: One reservation that people have with online counseling is, “Is it as effective as in-person counseling?” The answer is yes. Online counseling is tested and true. It proves effective for many people with different backgrounds and presenting issues.
  3. It’s affordable: On top of the previous two benefits, online counseling is affordable. Recently, most insurance companies started paying for online counseling services. Almost all companies pay for online counseling by video and many are starting to pay for telephone counseling too. Additionally, we offer affordable self-pay options here at Thriveworks Bastrop.
  4. It’s flexible and reliable: Finally, online counseling by phone and video are both flexible and reliable counseling options. You can more likely schedule an appointment quickly, rather than waiting several days or weeks to meet with your counselor for the first time. You also will likely have more scheduling options to choose from. Additionally, online counseling is reliable. You don’t have to worry about having to reschedule due to standstill traffic!

How do these benefits sound to you? If you would like to experience these for yourself, all you have to do is reach out to Thriveworks Bastrop. You can call us at (512) 521-3243. You can also schedule your first session online, too.

I have been working with Dr. Covey for almost 6 months now and she has been excellent. I feel like I am heard and understood even when I have a hard time expressing things myself and putting thoughts into words. Having someone who can actually listen and provide the resources to assist myself with past trauma and current challenges has been a life changer.

This is prior to being seen so this is strictly based on first impressions upon entering the building. The waiting area is nice but undefined as to where one should go nor any indications as to what is needed to be done. No one was there to greet us nor was there any desk or window to suggest someone would. We looked for the therapist's office but no doors had any identification to point us in the right direction. At this point we're at the mercy of the clock alerting the therapist to seek us out in the waiting area in order to be seen. Not the best first impression. I will update this review if and when we are seen.
