What is your go-to approach for cognitive behavioral therapy?

One of my go-to approaches for helping people is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This method employs techniques to assist clients in recognizing and confronting distorted beliefs that could affect their overall well-being. Through CBT, clients develop heightened self-awareness, enabling them to better regulate the beliefs influencing their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

What tools do you teach in cognitive behavioral therapy?

I frequently utilize the CBT triangle as a valuable visual aid, showcasing the structure and dynamics of the ego personality. This tool assists clients in integrating these insights into their daily routines. The triangle helps emphasize to clients that their unconscious beliefs serve as the blueprint for their lives. These unconscious beliefs give rise to subconscious emotions, conscious thoughts, and ultimately, their actions/interactions/behaviors. With this awareness, clients can begin to reframe unhelpful beliefs and detach themselves from those beliefs that do not serve their well-being.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in cognitive behavioral therapy?

I can observe a client's progress through cognitive behavioral therapy as they become increasingly aware of their deeply rooted unhelpful beliefs and actively challenge them with more beneficial beliefs. They start grasping the impact of their personal perspectives on life and acknowledge their capacity to select which perspectives to prioritize. A client on the path of progress begins to cultivate entirely new positive and inspiring belief systems within themselves.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement cognitive behavioral therapy?

Clients can enhance their cognitive behavioral therapy experience by practicing mindfulness and staying present with their feelings. They can see these emotions as signals pointing to unhelpful beliefs. In this process, clients can write down these unhelpful beliefs to gain insight into what is ingrained in their belief system and then focus on restructuring them.

What should someone do to prepare for starting cognitive behavioral therapy?

Clients can prepare for their cognitive behavioral therapy session by researching the CBT triangle and comprehending its structure. Delving deeper, clients can then begin to integrate aspects of their lives into the CBT triangle, gaining a clearer understanding of how everything interconnects.

Shame on Thrive works. My partner and I have been seeing a therapist and liked her. BUT both last week and this week we drove to Duluth location (35 minutes from my house), waited in the waiting room, only to find out our therapist wasn’t even there!!! Called to inquire why and basically got no reason. I received both the text message confirming my appointment and the emails. What if we were in crisis??? So disappointed with them.
