Many thanks to you, Shelley, for guiding me through a rough time. Your are so easy to talk with, seem to understand my anxiety and were over the top with helpful solutions. Today I am more calm and less distressed about what is going on. I recommend you to the world!

What Is the Difference Between Therapy, Counseling, and Psychiatry?

Therapy, provided by our counselors and therapists, addresses emotional and behavioral challenges using therapeutic techniques for mental well-being. Counseling, offered by counselors or therapists, focuses on specific issues and life adjustments, while psychiatry, led by our psychiatric nurse practitioners, involves diagnosing and treating mental health conditions with medication.

What Are the Types of Therapists You Can See?

While availability may vary, at Thriveworks Counseling & Child Therapy Indianapolis, we offer:

  • Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs): Trained to provide mental health counseling.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs): Specialized in social work and counseling for individuals, families, and groups.
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs): Focused on relationship and family-related issues.

When you connect with a provider at Thriveworks, you’ll be sharing your experience with an industry-leading expert; someone with the experience and professional insight you need to move forward.

Should I Start Seeing a Licensed Counselor or Therapist?

Mental health professionals specialize in techniques to help you work through and understand the challenges and mental health issues in your life. You’ll meet with a counselor to talk about your difficulties and any symptoms you’re experiencing.

One of the biggest misconceptions about mental health care is that it’s only for people with severe issues. Therapy is incredibly valuable for people going through major mental health challenges, but it can also help people with mild symptoms. It can also help people who are facing relationship difficulties, family conflicts, or substance abuse issues.

Working with a mental health provider could help you improve your mental health and get your life back on track. Our licensed therapists and counselors at Thriveworks Counseling & Child Therapy Indianapolis can create a judgment-free space for you to discuss your issues and forge a path forward.
