About
I see counseling as intrinsically interwoven with empowerment. It is a space that appreciates the value of people coming as they are-- human and authentic. It is understanding the importance of unconditional acceptance, and in that space, feeling seen, heard and known. It is a remarkable channel for inspiring exchanges of mutual empathy and a space where individuals can find their voice and speak unapologetically about the experiences in their lives where they have previously been silenced.
I earned my Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at NC State University. I am a fully licensed LCMHC (licensed clinical mental health counselor) with 6 years of clinical experience counseling a vast population varying in age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, personal beliefs and cultural norms. I deeply value my work with individuals processing trauma and PTSD and feel equally fulfilled providing support to individuals with mood disorders, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorders, personality disorders, grief and loss as well as in areas related to self-worth, identity and self-esteem.
Jennifer earned her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina State University. Her clinical style is heavily rooted in a person-centered and humanistic foundation with a breadth of trauma-informed modalities.
I believe in the importance of integrating interventions and theories to account for the unique nature each person brings. I draw from psychodynamic theory so clients can understand present day beliefs and behaviors by exploring and unpacking their past. I encourage clients to make connections to help them make sense of “the why” behind the behavior.
I appreciate the simplicity in complex things and view counseling in similar terms. People need people. We were never meant to brace this world without support. Human connection is not just a basic need; it is vital to living a life with meaning. I see counseling as a pathway to connection, knowing we are not alone and we never have to suffer in silence.

"I appreciate the uniqueness of every individual I encounter and my style of practice ranges from prescribing up-to-date psychiatric medications or natural treatments to include but not limited to modifications to lifestyle, vitamins, supplements, exercise, nutrition, and stress management."

She does note that while she cannot "fix" you, she can work with you to help you identify your issues and find solutions to help you fix yourself. If you are ready to do that, schedule an appointment with her today!

I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor who has helped hold hope for clients in counseling for over 20 years. I have a master's and doctorate in counseling, which adds to the skills and support I offer. Are there issues with stress, anxiety, grief, loss, sadness, or a life transition? So how can I help? As a clinical mental health counselor, I will offer you a safe space and listen without judgment. I believe that you and your story matter. I counsel from a holistic, mind-body-heart perspective that is realistic and grounded. I will help you explore strategies and coping skills that are useful and practical for you in your life.

I would be honored to join you in counseling and help hold hope.

Betsy Servis is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) who has worked with community mental health for 25 years in various capacities. The year before Betsy went into behavioral health, she was working exclusively with dementia clients both young and old. She has many years of experience counseling children, adults, and couples of multiple nationalities. Betsy treats specific issues such as addictive behavior, substance abuse in case management captivity, dementia including Alzheimer’s, aging and depression, bipolar disorder, childhood issues such as attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disorders and disabilities, conduct disorder, autism (high functioning), adjustment disorders, early and late trauma, crisis counseling, family counseling, grief, stress, and anxiety.
Betsy completed her Master of Science (MS) in Mental Health Counseling after completing an internship with Old Vineyard Behavioral Health and various group homes to help transfer clients. She uses biofeedback methods (deep breathing and heart math) to calm and help clients ease into a calmer lifestyle. Betsy has used cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for children and adults with addictive behaviors. She presently has a certificate in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TFCBT) which is designed for victims of childhood sexual and physical abuse, and for older victims of domestic violence or sexual abuse. Betsy works with most populations with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with this skill set. In addition, she has taught groups in an open, non-direct manner for subjects mentioned above. Betsy's approach is holistic, where understanding is primary and embracing change is the solution.
You as a client know yourself, and Betsy as a counselor wants to give you as much care as she can for the time that you spend with her. She is here to help you through the time you need to collaborate and discuss open issues and she is open to hear and discuss your input. In the closing of therapy, however long it is, you and Betsy gently allow you to slowly stop therapy to help you take back over control of your life. Together you can develop a plan of action that will give you the tools and skills for a greater outcome to your life, through a nonjudgmental place that Betsy wants to be yours.

In Greensboro, your cost depends on whether you use insurance or pay out of pocket. With insurance, most patients pay a copay between $0 and $55 per session. If you’re self-pay, rates vary by state—typically $200 to $240 for your first therapy session and $160 to $195 for follow-ups, or $300 to $375 for an initial psychiatry session and $210 to $300 for follow-ups. Contact our Greensboro office or visit our pricing page to learn more.
Yes, Thriveworks Greensboro accepts insurance to help cover services, including individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and psychiatry. Couples and family therapy aren’t always covered the same way, since some plans only cover sessions considered medically necessary.
We’ll verify your insurance and estimate your out-of-pocket cost for you before your first session, but it’s still worth confirming your specific benefits with your insurer, especially if your plan requires pre-authorization (advance approval from your insurer before certain treatments are covered).
Fit matters more than almost anything else in therapy. Research consistently shows the relationship between you and your therapist is one of the strongest predictors of whether treatment actually works, no matter their approach. Start by thinking about what you want help with, then browse provider profiles in Greensboro and filter by specialty, insurance, and availability to find someone who feels right for you. If your first session doesn’t click, no problem. You can switch providers anytime, no fees, no hassle.
All three support mental health in different ways. A therapist provides talk therapy to help you work through challenges; a psychologist also provides therapy, but their doctoral training lets them do psychological testing and formal evaluations; a psychiatrist is a medical provider who can prescribe medication.
Thriveworks Greensboro offers therapy and psychiatry together, so you can get the right type of care—or a combination—in one place. For more detail, see our straightforward guide to mental health care professionals.
Most patients at Thriveworks Greensboro see a provider within six days. We offer flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends. Book online or call our Greensboro office to find the soonest session with a therapist or psychiatric provider.
Yes. Psychiatric providers at Thriveworks Greensboro can prescribe and manage medication, and many patients pair that with talk therapy from a separate provider. Our team coordinates the two together.
Your first session is mostly about getting to know each other. Your therapist will ask what brought you in, talk through your history and goals, and start shaping a plan for care. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with—the first session is a conversation, not a test. Want more detail? Here’s exactly what to expect, step by step.
Yes. Thriveworks Greensboro offers both in-person sessions at our local office and online (telehealth) sessions, so you can choose what’s most convenient and switch between the two as your needs change.
